Seasonal Crafts: A Spring Wreath
by Sylvia Jones
Celebrating the end of winter with a fresh spring wreath is a great addition to any home. Whether displayed outside on a front door or inside on a wall, a spring wreath reminds people that new life is bursting forth while the icy coldness of winter has passed. Since Mother’s Day falls during spring, a spring wreath makes a great gift for Moms. When crafting a spring wreath, you can choose to use your own vines and construct your own wreath form, or you may decide to purchase a pre made wreath. There are many different fresh wreaths available for sale at local craft and department stores. Grapevine wreaths are very popular choices, yet there are other vines available for use as well. You may decide to use a straw wreath as your base instead of a grapevine or twig wreath. Tendrils lend beauty and characteristic to wreaths, so if you are using a vine, be sure to use a vine that has plenty of loose tendrils. Some of the materials that you will need to create your wreath include floral wire, a hot glue gun, ribbons, artificial flowers, and dried flowers. The stunning addition to your spring wreath will be in the colors and combination of flowers that you use. Since spring is synonymous with new fresh blooms, you really can’t go wrong with your choice of flowers. Choose a color theme, or blend warm and sunny oranges with creamy yellows for a beautiful wreath. Add a touch of Robin’s egg blue and your wreath will exude the warmth and beauty of spring. Some of the most popular flowers and greenery used with Spring wreaths include: • Hydrangea • Larkspur • Lavender • Tansy • Daisies • Ivy • Forsythia • Eucalyptus Sprigs • Roses Using a hot glue gun you can add as many flowers as you like. Grouping the flowers by color and attaching them with floral wire is also very effective. If you are using a straw based wreath, floral pins are a great way to secure the flowers to the wreath as well. One flower that is always in fashion and is great for Mother’s Day Spring wreaths is the Rose. Available in so many different colors, Roses and Baby’s Breath make the perfect wreath. You can choose pastel colored Roses, such as white, peach, soft pink and yellow. Or create a fresh wreath with full bloom red roses. Choose beautiful Ivy to backdrop the roses and your wreath will be a gorgeous addition to any home’s décor. Time to celebrate the end of winter! Create a spring wreath today. Its easy and will instantly brighten your day.
